Social Networking Communities

CATERING TO YOUR NICHE COMMUNITY

In this world of hundreds of social networking platforms one might ask why anyone would consider implementing their own social networking community. The answer is simple. Smaller is and focused is often better. Facebook for example now has more people that some countries. It’s becoming a platform of pictures and funny video with people talking about things most people don’t want to know about.

Your business however may have a loyal community. This community may want to connect with like minded people that share the same interests. They may want to form groups within your own social network, share and exchange ideas the list is endless.

Although your Facebook brand strategy is important, don’t over look the potential of harnessing your own community in a niche social network community.

Businessweek just published an article uncovering the importance of niche social networks.

Businessweek - Sept 9, 2010.

The Big Trend in Small Social Sites

Niche social networks such as myYearbook and Dogster draw users and advertisers, adding up to a sizable portion of the social Web

'Specialty social networks add up to a sizable portion of the social Web; in July at least 280 million people logged on to social sites other than Facebook and Twitter, according to audience tracker comScore (SCOR). Andrew Lipsman, comScore director of industry analysis, estimates the real number could be as high as 700 million, since many people use more than one social site.'
